Hi all

It has been some time that I have showed a new part of my collection and this seems the right moment, about 5 weeks ago Frusticus from D2X-XL, a forum moderator from that place sent me a very cool gift as respect of having the worlds largest known Descent / Freespace collection and thereby being so open with it as well, I was like hey man I'd love to pay you for it really it's not really much of an issue, he was like no man this one is deticated for you I don't do much with it anyways.

So here it is then :)

Big Thanks go to Frustikus from the D2X-XL Team!!!

It's a mouse pad , a very limited Promotional mousepad that came with the retail release of Descent 2 in germany, it was sold in one shopping centre in the world and that lays in Central Germany, for got the name of that place though heh!

Well this collection took me more than just a few years heh, it all began when the first beta demo of Descent 1 was released Q4 1994, as far as my brain can recall this was on November 21, 1994, thatday I was hooked, and as the releases came I bought them and enjoyed them til this very day.

The real mass collecting began alot later around Q3 2006, this was a time when i sold all my 3dfx cards and seeked something that would suit me better a game series that I grew up with something Pre-3Dfx something very.. well let's say original.

Hello Descent: First Strike and the rest of them dazzeling adventures yes this was it, I also helped beta testing for Diedel's D2X-XL and Zico's DXX-Rebirth and along with these project the will of more Descent based items began to grow within my soul.

aabout 1 year later I had collected alot of Descent based games european and American ones, the differences are mainly box arts and packaging methods and such, that made the collection somewhat more complete, then I found out about the Playstation versions, the macintosh versions and the rare not yet found Linux Loki version of Descent 3, I also collected FreeSpace 1 and 2 and all their expansions, limited Editions even some Freespace alpha and beta pre release Demo software you anme it it is all here.

I added the Freespace series because somehow it had something special like Descent did, even that it was created and programmed by the same people that did the Descent Series, somehow I felt that it had to be a part of the collection, so yeah why not add it, give the collection some more varaitiy and yeah that worked out fine.

Today finding new items gets harder by the day, because by having almost every Decent & freespace item Parallax, Interplay, Vollution and Origin made, it's all so thinned out.

What would be nice is a baseball cap, some merchandise clothing from Descent or Freespace, miscellaneous items such as these or like a Promotional lunchbox adesktop model from all the star fighters you fly in the Descent and Freespace series would be cool, not forgetting the enemy units.

Such things have yet not been found, that Mousepad, which Frustikus gave me is one of such rare occasions that is more like a one in a lifetime event and yeah I am very proud to own that evry rare and very hard to find piece of art.

The purpose of my collection is to show how many versions, how many box arts were used were really made from actually such a small game series, USA, EUR, and Aisia all have their ways of doing box arts and with each game every art has it's differences the other does not have, this collection is also my way of showing Interplay that the Descent dream is not deceased, it's well alive and I hope it also rings a bell at Interplay that us Descent and Freespace fans want more, we want a new title and if these titles will imerge I will add them greatfully to my growing collection, it's also a pure reference of the best game series every created by man til this very point also the most succesful ever created that has an own original concept.

The price was rather steep, but hey on the other side it's worth it's rarity ;)
Here the pics that came with it:

The box looks neat so does the manual and the CD :)

Once this one arrives I will make much better pics of it hehe, yeah this was probably my best find of 2010 also my first purchase for the collection as well, I have to admit, that I kinda thinned ebay out and I found out that it has gotten alot harder to find the ones I do not have yet, this is surely a golden find, that's for sure 8-)

Great news everyone :)

After some busy times I am still collecting Descent and Freespace games, this is probably one of the rarest ones that have been added and yeah sorry for not being around much , I kinda had alot of other things going on over here as well hehe, great to see this place is still intact.

Today @ 12:28PM Descent3 for Linux by Loki Games arrived and the quality of the product is like new!

here some sweet pics :)

After8 years looking this really made the Descent / Freespace collection more complete, hopefully one day Descent 1, 2 and 3 for Apple Macintosh will be added in just the same quality as this beauty 8)

Update :)

I did another go at the Guiness World Records website see what happens this time heh, so far so good:

Okay after that I got this in the mail:

Cool!
This would help Descent get some publicity... maybe convince Interplay to make D4?

heh thank you for your cool post Alter-Fox great to see you here as well mate 8-)
Well from this point I will do my best to preserve these games and live on the Descent /Freespace dream, like we all do right :)

It might enlighten Interplay that there is more than enough interest for a D3 Sequel, so yeah, who knowns man, I will update this thread if I get more news from the Guiness World Records and if newer parts have been added to this massive collection.

So far, so good everyone 8-)
